Every year my mom whips up delicious holiday baking. Every year I indulge in lots of the holiday baking and think to myself “how am I related to this extremely talented woman and cannot ever make anything taste this good?!” Well last year I decided to break the mold - Sarah and I helped with the holiday baking! Year one was not the biggest success on the twins part I must admit… But just this last Sunday marked year two and I must say it was a great improvement! All these recipes come from this amazing gift my Aunt gave my mom one year - a Hilroy notebook, filled front to back with handwritten and magazine clipped recipes. There so many gems in here and it is the gift that keeps on giving year after year. So we took out the Hilroy, cranked some Christmas tunes, drank prosecco and baked.

Recipe 1 - Chewy Molasses Spice Cookies

These cookies are soft, chewy and melt in your mouth delicious! Although they take a little extra time since the dough needs to sit in the fridge over night before baking, they are super duper worth it!

Recipe 2 - Shortbread

Making shortbread cookies is an art form, one which my mom has perfected, Sarah is learning quickly, and I am trailing behind. The key is pressing the cookies correctly, making sure that they come out at the exact right time to make them so purty. I cannot take credit for these creations… but I can for the other two!

Recipe 3 - Hello Dollies

This recipe is made all in a 9 x 9 pan and requires no bowls or mixing of the sort! Butter is melted, ingredients are layered, it is put in the oven and viola!

It can get so busy over the holidays that sometimes it is easy to lose sight of what it is all about; cherishing and hanging out with family and friends (at least that’s what I think!) Not only was baking day productive, but it also was a wonderful afternoon of hanging out with my mom, sisters and friends.

Next weekend we are chopping down a Christmas tree then having a Hanukkah dinner! So diverse and fun, I will report back on the dinner dishes!

With love from your blogger,

Arielle
